07/10/2010 - Washington, DC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins starting right guard Mike Williams could be sidelined for the 2010 season because of blood clots near his heart.
Team sources have told the paper that Williams was recently hospitalized because of the problem. Though he has since been released, the team has reportedly expressed concern that the condition could threaten his career and seem to be inclined to err on the side of caution and keep him away from the game for the upcoming season.
The Redskins open their first training camp under new head coach Mike Shanahan on July 29.
Williams was the fourth overall selection in the 2002 NFL Draft by Buffalo and struggled at times through four seasons at tackle with the Bills. He spent the 2006 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 30-year-old University of Texas product was out of the league for two seasons before resuming his career in 2009 with the Redskins and seemed to have found his niche moving to the interior of the offensive line during the eight games he played in a year ago.
The Redskins rewarded him with a two-year contract following last season.
Williams has played in 59 games, starting 56, in his six NFL campaigns.
