Myers strong again as 'Stros clip Cardinals

07/10/2010 - Houston, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeff Keppinger had two hits, including a home run, to back another strong outing from Brett Myers in Houston's 4-1 win over St. Louis in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Pedro Feliz chipped in with a two-run single for the Astros, who have won four of their last five.

Myers (6-6) went eight innings to grab the win, yielding just the lone run on five hits while fanning five for Houston, which leads the season series, 5-3. The right-hander is the only starting pitcher in the big leagues to have gone six innings or more in each of his starts (18) this year.

Matt Lindstrom worked around a pair of walks in the ninth to register his 21st save of the season.

Jeff Suppan (0-5) took the loss in his 100th career start for St. Louis after giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings, as the Redbirds fell for a fourth time in their last five games.

Keppinger's double and two walks loaded the bases for Houston with two outs in the first. Feliz then laced a two-run single to left field and Humberto Quintero followed with a looping single to right to plate Hunter Pence with the third run of the inning.

Albert Pujols tripled off the top of the wall in right field, just out of the reach of a leaping Pence, with one out in the fourth and scored on a Matt Holliday groundout to trim the lead to two.

Keppinger blasted a one-out solo home run to left in the fifth to increase the lead back to three and finish the scoring for the night.

Carlos Lee fisted a two-out single into left-center and moved to third on a double by Pence that chased Suppan from the game. Mitchell Boggs took over and got Feliz to ground out to end the inning.

Myers retired the side in order in the sixth, yielded a two-out single to Jon Jay in the seventh and closed his outing by retiring the side in order in the eighth.

Lindstrom issued a one-out walk to Skip Schumaker before getting Pujols on a called third strike. He then put Holliday on with a free pass before setting down Jay on a called third strike to end the game.

Game Notes

Cardinals outfielder Colby Rasmus did not play in Saturday's game after leaving Friday's game in the eighth inning with a tight right hamstring...Myers' 18 straight starts of six innings or more to begin the season is a club record. He is also 5-0 at home this season and the Astros have won his last eight turns at Minute Maid Park...Keppinger put together his 27th multi-hit game of the season...Injured Astros starter Felipe Paulino, who has been sidelined by right shoulder tendinitis, is scheduled to throw a simulated game Sunday or Monday and could be able to rejoin the rotation after the All-Star break...Jay has hit safely in 10 straight games.
